Lori Whittle has been involved in Health Promotion since 1979. Ms. Whittle earned a Master’s Degree in Public Health at the University of South Florida in 1993 and researched the topic of Falls Prevention while continuing her graduate work in Gerontology at Florida Gulf Coast University. In 2004, Lori  collaborated with Senior Friendship Centers, Sarasota, Florida, to secure funding from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County for a three-year Falls Prevention Initiative. In 2005, Lori was certified as a Balance and Mobility Specialist Instructor with the Fallproof! program at California State University, Fullerton. She was certified as a Senior Personal Trainer by the American Senior Fitness Association in 2006. Lori has worked professionally in education, massage therapy, social work, and community health promotion. She has faithfully attended Jazzercise classes for 23 years.

Lori Whittle founded Balance Basics in 2007 based on her experience developing and managing the highly successful, research-based Falls Prevention Initiative (FPI). In 2006, the FPI won third place out of 520 national applicants for the Peter F. Drucker award for Non-Profit Innovation. Ms. Whittle developed Movements for Balance & Strength as part of the FPI. Over 1650 seniors have participated in Ms. Whittle balance classes.
