For individuals and organizations
Individuals: In-Home Service
Lori Whittle can help keep you on your feet by offering several services in your home. The fear of falling is overwhelming for many older people. Lori’s most sought-after service is instruction and practice in How To Get Up From A Fall. Using a solid foundation of knowledge in safety and body mechanics, Lori tailors instruction to an individual’s capability. She gently works with people until they feel more comfortable in their skills.
Lori has compiled a list of simple balance tips for older people to use that will immediately increase their stability. In addition, Lori developed the Home Safety Checklist as part of her graduate work in Gerontology. Using this checklist, she can help individuals find trouble spots at home and recommend simple modifications to make home a safer place to be.
Community Groups: Workshops
The educational section of Balance Basics is called Do You Know Where Your Feet Are? The two most popular workshops are Safety and Balance Tips and How To Get Up From A Fall. Lori is available to facilitate educational workshops in your church, community center, or any place where seniors gather. Each workshop lasts about one hour.
Organizations: Consultation
Lori Whittle has developed several educational workshops and trainings to help organizations create or augment their own Falls Prevention Programs. Having successfully taken her Falls Prevention Initiative from an idea through grant-writing and funding, development and management, Ms. Whittle has gained the knowledge and skills to offer concrete, field-based experience. Ms. Whittle can help you clarify your goals and objectives, design a program best suited to your organization or community, and provide training in key areas.
Train-the-Trainer is the most cost-effective way to reach a large number of people. Lori has developed training for exercise leaders (Movements for Balance & Strength) and for educational workshop leaders (Do You Know Where Your Feet Are?). Once trained, leaders can provide valuable falls prevention information and skills to groups of seniors in their own communities.
The cost of these services relies on a number of factors. Contact Balance Basics.
